Ball & Paddle Games

Ball and paddle games have been a classic genre of video games since the beginning of gaming. The user controls a paddle and attempts to direct a ball toward an object. Normally, the objectives of these games are to destroy other objects with the ball or to prevent the ball from getting past the paddle.
  1. Arkanoid

    • "Arkanoid" is a game that is widely available for download on Internet gaming sites. The object of the game is to battle through levels by using a paddle to aim balls at layers of bricks. As the levels progress, more balls appear, if the player misses any of them, he will lose the game.

    Breakout 360

    • "Breakout 360" is a spinoff of the typical ball and paddle games because players can move their paddle 360 degrees. The paddle is able to travel all the way around the bricks and hit the ball in different directions, adding a new level of excitement.

    Pong

    • Released on the Atar in 1972, "Pong" was the first ball and paddle game. The rules were loosely based on table tennis. The entire game had only two lines and one square ball. Players hit the ball from one end of the screen, and the computer would attempt to return it. Like table tennis, the object of the game was to make the other player miss. "Pong" is now available for download on virtually any online gaming site.

    Codebreaker

    • "Codebreaker" is another take on the ball and paddle genre. Players must attempt to break through an advanced security system by meticulously hitting a ball (with a paddle) towards each layer of security (bricks) and breaking them.
