Indo Board Tricks

The Indo board, made by Indo Board Balance Trainers, is one of the leading rocker-roller balance boards. Back in 1965, surfer Hunter Joslin began using balance boards to improve his surfing skills, which led to his design for the Indo board. An Indo board is a simple wooden board that is balanced on cylinder, called a roller. The boards are not just for exercise; young board enthusiasts are now performing tricks in competition and for entertainment.
  1. The 50/50 Trick

    • This is the one of the most common Indo board tricks, and it can easily be combined with other harder moves. Place the Indo board on top of the roller, with the ends facing the same direction as the roller. Normally, you would balance on the board with it in a criss-cross position to the roller, but this time they face the same direction. With the board in this position ride it similarly to a snowboard, with your feet side to side. From here you can perform smaller tricks like the ollie. Just remember to ollie only enough that your weight is mostly displaced off the board without falling off-balance with the roller.

    The 50/50 Hang Ten

    • First, move the board into the 50/50 position. Then, cautiously position your body in the "Hang Ten" position, placing your feet at the board's nose. Next, transition into a nose press, keeping your balance to the best of your ability (you may need to stretch out your arms). This is very similar to going downhill on a skateboard in the "Hang Ten" position. Moving out of this position can be just as difficult as moving into it, so you may want to flip the board off the roller. If not, slowly move one foot back so the board returns to the original 50/50 position.

    Super Hard Death Trick

    • First, situate the roller standing vertically, with the board placed horizontally on top of it. Now, this might be the hardest part of the trick for many. Leap onto the board, all the while holding your balance. It may take a second or two to regain your balance. Once you are steady you need to cause the roller to collapse and the board to land atop it by leaning forward with your body, but back on your heels. Basically, you are trying to slide the board back on top of the roller as it is falling. This trick can be used in combination with other tricks. When you practice, it helps to have some sort of handle or raised bar near enough to help maintain your balance.
