Tech Deck Trick Instructions for Beginners

The Tech Deck is a miniaturized skateboard that is ridden by hand, using the index and middle fingers to emulate your legs. Even if you know how to skateboard, it can be difficult to master some of the moves on a Tech Deck. However, like in skateboarding, there are some moves that are fundamental to understanding more advanced trick and, just as in skateboarding, the Ollie is the bedrock move on which are all others are based.
  1. Ollie

    • Place your index and middle fingers on the board. Your middle finger should be on the back fin, with your index firmly in the center. Press down on the rear fin with your middle finger in a firm but fast manner. As the board pops, keep your fingers in place and guide it, leading with your index finger, up and forward. It is easier to perform this move while moving the board forward, since your hand will naturally guide it in the direction of travel. When performed correctly, the board should remain under your hand's guidance while it jumps forward.

    Nollie

    • Place your index finger on the front fin of the board and your middle finger in the middle. The Nollie is, essentially, the inverse of the Ollie. Instead of popping it up from the back, in the direction of travel, you pop it up from the front, while continuing in the same direction. To perform this trick, it is necessary to get up a lot of speed, since otherwise you will be inclined to accidentally move the board backward. Pop the front fin with your index finger and slide your middle finger toward the back of the board to level it in the air. Make sure to keep the board under your hand's guidance and to continue traveling forward instead of forcing it back by accident.

    Shove It

    • Place your index finger in the center of the board and your middle finger on the rear fin. Press lightly down and inward, toward you, with your middle finger. This will pop the board, as well as spin the front end toward the back. Make sure to keep your index finger in the same position. When you catch the board, it will have spun 180 degrees lengthwise.
