How to Make Fingerboard Griptape

Fingerboards, or miniature skateboards, are fun toys that can be customized just like a full-sized skateboard. The grip tape, which is on the top of the board, is used to keep the users fingers attached and in control of the fingerboard. 1. How to Make Fingerboard Grip Tape

    • 1

Remove the original grip tape on your fingerboard by using the heat of a hairdryer to soften the glue. Use the edge of the razor blade to lift a corner of the grip tape from the board and slowly pull the grip tape away.

    • 2

Apply the glue to the deck of the fingerboard where the old grip tape used to be.Plastic cement or another strong adhesive works best. Cover the entire deck with glue.

    • 3

Quickly place the sheet of black sandpaper on top of the board and push it down with your thumb so that it sticks evenly to the deck of the fingerboard. Use your thumb to push out any air bubbles that form between the sandpaper and the deck. Using the razor blade, make a small incision in any bubbles that cannot be forced out with your thumb.

    • 4

Drag the dull edge of the razor along the edges of the fingerboard, pushing the sandpaper down around the sides of the deck. Repeat this action several times to crease the sandpaper and make it conform to the shape of the fingerboard.

    • 5

Use the razor blade to remove the excess sandpaper by slicing along the edges of the deck. Use enough force to penetrate the sandpaper, but try not to scrape the actual fingerboard.

    • 6

Use the corner of the razor blade to carefully cut holes in the sandpaper to expose the screws on the top of the fingerboard.
