How to Tie a Yoyo String

Tying a yo-yo string is the first step to using a yo-yo correctly. Using a simple loop is one of the first mistakes that many fledling yo-yo artists make. Instead, using a slip knot will keep the string from sliding around your finger too much.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that the string is the correct length. To do this, unravel the entire string and place the yo-yo against the floor. The string should reach two inches above your navel. Cut off any excess string.

    • 2

Loop the end of the resulting string and tie it into a double knot, forming a loop. The loop should have a diameter of approximately one inch.

    • 3

Pull the length of string connected to the yo-yo through the loop to form a second loop.

    • 4

Push your finger through this loop. Then drop the yo-yo and allow the loop to tighten around your finger. You are now ready to use your yo-yo!
