How to Remove Mold From Plastic Toy Equipment

Plastic is a very popular material to use in toys of all types. It is easily formed and can be cast in a variety of colors, and most forms are non-toxic. As plastics age, they must be kept clean of bacteria and molds to prevent damage to the material itself. Often, mold can be removed from these types of toys before it becomes too widespread and breaks down the structure of the toy. Harsh abrasives and scrubbing tools will ruin a toy, so care must be taken to remove the mold safely and completely.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your pail with enough water to completely cover the plastic toy. Separate toys and wash each individually if cleaning more than one.

    • 2

Add an equal amount of Pine-Sol cleaner to the pail. Swish the cleaner around to mix the Pine-Sol and water.

    • 3

Allow the toy to rest in the Pine-Sol solution overnight, or until the plastic begins to feel soft to the touch.

    • 4

Brush away any physical signs of mold while the toy is immersed in the solution. This will kill remaining mold spores that may not come off with the main patch.

    • 5

Wash your toy with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly before play. The mold should now be cleaned away and the toy sanitized.
