Indoor/Outdoor Use
Due to its small size and infrared method of control, the Picoo Z is considered an indoor model. You can fly it around banisters, over and under chairs, and even weave through slow-moving ceiling fans. The reason the Picoo Z is not an outdoor vehicle is primarily the fact that it uses an infrared control system instead of the frequency modulated radio waves of more expensive models. This means the craft will lose signal whenever placed in direct sunlight. It is possible to fly it outside under low-light conditions such as at twilight and early dawn. You can also fly the Picoo Z under shelters such as canopies and pavilions provided the reflected light is not enough to overload the IR sensor.
Simple Techniques
The Picoo Z has twin motors controlling both the main rotor and tail. This allows even inexperienced pilots to perform impressive tricks such as horizontal and vertical figure eights. The small size of the heli lets you fly it through areas that would be off-limits to bulkier models. Try setting up obstacle courses with furniture such as chairs, cardboard boxes and table leg slaloms. The Picoo Z is not capable of inverted flight; be careful not to flip the heli, as it will crash on its most sensitive area, the rotors.
Care and maintenance
The controller of the Picoo Z is also its charger. Always fully charge the heli before each flight to maintain the life of the Li-Po battery inside. Keep the controller charged as well, as any loss of signal can result in a dangerous crash. When used inside, the Picoo Z will not require maintenance beyond inspection for cracks and regular charging. When cracks appear in the rotors, they must be replaced. Cracked rotors will interfere with regular flight and cause the craft to behave erratically. Damage to the fuselage can be taped or glued without risk to the craft. If the Picoo Z is used outside, you will need to also ensure after each flight that dirt or grass has not become stuck on the rotor shaft or in the tail rotor. These can cause the engine to overheat and permanently ruin the unit.
