How to Make a Sheep Puppet

Little kids love hand puppets-both to play with themselves, and to be entertained with by their parents or older siblings. Some puppets become so very much loved that they are also favorite companions for naptime and bedtime.
A sheep puppet can be soft and cuddly enough to sleep with, a great way to teach your child about at least one farm animal, and a family favorite for hours of entertainment.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your fabric. Your sheep puppet should be made of white or off-white faux lambs wool fabric or any soft fleece. You will need less than 1/2 yard.

    • 2

Cut out your puppet. Cut two pieces from the fabric in the shape of a tube sock, but wide enough to allow an adult's hand to fit inside. Allow 1/2 inch for a seam allowance all the way around. Cut a circle the same size as the rounded end of the "tube" out of the pink fabric.

    • 3

Stitch the body. With right sides of the fabric together, stitch the pink mouth halfway around the circle to one of the body pieces. Repeat with the other one. Stitch the body the rest of the way down the sides, and hem the open end.

    • 4

Add ears and eyes. Cut two small triangles out of the fleece fabric and hand-stitch them to the "head" of the puppet, point down. Determine where the eye buttons should go, and sew them on by hand also.

    • 5

Don't forget the legs. Your sheep should have front legs, at least, so cut two squares, 3 inches per side, out of your fleece. Fold into rectangles and sew. Turn them right side out, and attach them to the body of the sheep puppet. Cut two cloven hooves out of the black felt and either sew or glue them to the ends of the legs.
