Types
There are a multitude of slide types, including but not limited to inflatable, free-standing, straight, twisting and water park style. Manufacturers sell slides for both in-ground and above-ground pools.
Materials and Construction
Pool slides are commonly made of fiberglass, acrylic or high-density plastic, with stairs molded into or bolted to the structure. Most slides are coated with slick material to reduce friction.
Prices
The prices of swimming pool slides vary greatly, from a few hundred dollars for a "traditional" slide with metal steps to thousands for top-of-the-line designs.
Safety
Injuries can result from improper use of slides, such as descending headfirst, wearing clothing that can snag and general reckless play. Improper construction or maintenance also presents safety risks.
Fun Fact
Tommy Lynch, an employee of the U.K.'s First Choice company, has the ultimate "cool" job of testing water slides at various resorts in Europe and other exotic locales.
