How to Make an Index Card Fingerboard

Fingerboards are a fun hobby. Making them is a simple project when index cards are used to make the board. Only a few items are needed to make and customize new fingerboards.

Things You'll Need

  • Tech deck board to use as a template
  • Four index cards
  • Elmer's glue
  • Pencil
  • Tech deck tool (or a screwdriver with a tiny head)

Instructions

    • 1

Take an index card and trace existing tech deck fingerboard. This will become the template to make the board. Be sure to mark the holes where the trucks will attach also.

    • 2

Cut out the shape and punch out the holes with the tech deck tool. Now the template is ready to be used.

    • 3

Use the cut out fingerboard as a template to trace it again on the next index card. Two tracings will fit next to each other on one sheet of the index card.

    • 4

Cut out the two shapes. Again be sure to punch out the holes.

    • 5

Repeat this process until you have six layers for the fingerboard.

    • 6

Glue each board layer onto each other until they are all stacked and glued into place.

    • 7

Use the tech deck tool or screwdriver to be sure all the holes are lined up properly.

    • 8

Bend the ends and shape the board. This step is easiest to do when the glue is still a bit wet and the layers are easy to bend.

    • 9

Another way to shape the board is to sandwich the index card fingerboard between two tech deck boards. Add clamps to hold it in place and wait for it to dry.

    • 10

Let the glue dry and firm up a bit before the next step. It should take about 10 minutes.

    • 11

Use the modeling paint and paintbrush to paint the fingerboard.

    • 12

Time to cut out the grip. Take the fingerboard template that was used as a guide to cut the index card layers and trace it on the back of the sandpaper.

    • 13

Cut the shape out of sandpaper.

    • 14

Glue the grip to the top of the board.

    • 15

Use Sharpie markers to add optional graphics to the bottom of the board.

    • 16

      Attach trucks and wheels.
