How to Clean a Tootsie Toy Car

The TootsieToy company makes several lines of toys, but it's most known for its die-cast cars. To make die-cast cars, zinc and white-metal alloys are melted and poured into molds. The company began way back in 1906. The first car manufactured was a miniature Model T Ford. Today, the TootsieToy company still makes die-cast cars, as well as other toys. Die-cast cars are sturdy, and there are ways to clean them if you want to keep the paint and decals looking good.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the dust off a TootsieToy car by brushing it lightly with a soft-bristled brush. Dust can scratch the painted surface. To keep dust off your TootsieToy car, (and preserve a collectible) store it in its original box. Or store it in a display case or in an enclosed cabinet.

Clean dirt off a TootsieToy car with a soft, clean cloth and a mild solution of dishwashing soap and warm water. A couple drops of soap in a cup of water should do the trick. Dip the cloth into the solution then wring it out so it's just damp and not sloppy wet. Wipe the surfaces gently to clean them; avoid the decals if at all possible. To clean dirt from small nooks and crannies, use a cotton swab.

Rinse a cleaned TootsieToy car off with clean tap water. Then, gently blot off the water with a soft, clean cloth. Use a cotton swab to dry in between nooks and crannies.
