How to Build a Play House

To you, a large cardboard box is garbage filler. To a child, it could be the beginnings of a spectacular playhouse. Save the box from any large appliance (e.g., refrigerator, washing machine or dishwasher) and promise your children that you will use it on a rainy day. Then help your children create the playhouse of their dreams.

Things You'll Need

Large cardboard box
Pencil
Scissors
Markers or paint
Tape or glue
Feathers, streamers, stickers, glitter or other art supplies (optional)

Instructions

  Cut the extra flaps off the box.

  Turn the box so that its open end faces the ground.

  With your child, use a pencil to draw windows and a door on the house.

  Use sharp scissors (or a kitchen knife) to cut out the windows and the door. Make sure to leave one side of the door attached and fold it so that it will open and close easily.

  Help your child to decorate the playhouse. Use markers and paint to draw flowers, sports figures, TV characters, animals or anything else your child desires. Glue or tape other art supplies onto the box.
