Aluminum Foil and Cardboard Method
Recycle a cardboard box like a cereal box, pop can box or corrugated box for this project.
Make the knife as long as the longest un-bent piece of cardboard. Kids hate a toy knife that bends in the middle.
Use a marker and draw the outline of a knife on the cardboard. Make a handle, with a guard and a knife blade coming out of the handle. One end of the blade is straight and the other curves and comes to a point at the end.
Cut out the cardboard knife with scissors.
Hold the cardboard knife in your hand and trim the cardboard, if necessary, until it fits comfortably.
Wrap the cardboard knife in aluminum foil to make it a silver knife.
Use this type of toy knife for indoor play activities.
Wood Method
Draw the outline of a knife on a piece of wood. Make the knife as long as the piece of wood and as wide as the piece. Use wood that is thicker than ¼ inch.
Include a knife handle with a guard and a blade on the knife. Avoid making the knife tip skinny and sharp. Short and thick is best.
Cut out the piece of wood along the outline with a band or scroll saw.
Sand the cut edges of the wooden knife with a piece of sand paper until smooth to the touch. Sand until the toy is smooth all the way around.
Use a wooden toy knife for indoor or outdoor play fun.
