How to Do Intermediate Hula Hoop Tricks

If you've mastered basic hula hoops moves and have no problem spinning the hoop around your waist and neck, you're ready to graduate to intermediate tricks. Intermediate hula hoop tricks are still easy enough to be done by anybody. They just require a bit more practice, and for some intermediate moves, two hula hoops.

Do the flamingo hula hoop trick by beginning with the basic hula hoop move, spinning the hoop around your waist with your feet even with your shoulders and your knees slightly bent. Move the hoop to your knees and build up speed as you stand on one leg. Concentrate on maintaining balance.

    • 2

Perform an up-down hula hoop trick by starting with the basic hula hoop move and then allowing the hoop to drop down to knee level. Using your thigh muscles, bring it back up to your waist, maintaining speed. Repeat moving the hoop up and down.

    • 3

Move to the footsy hula hoop trick by dropping the hoop to one ankle. Maintain speed and hop in and out of the rotating hoop.

    • 4

Continue doing the footsy, and as you maintain the speed, move the hoop up to knee level as you jump in and out. This is the hula hop.

    • 5

Do a basic hand trick with two hula hoops. Hold your arms out from your body and rotate your arms in small circles to spin the hoop.

    • 6

Keep the hoops spinning around your arms and move from the basic hand trick to the basic elbow. Extend your arms more toward your back, move the hoops to your elbows, and keep spinning.
