How to Play Digimon Card Game

The Digimon card game evolved from the popular pastime of collecting Digimon character cards. To play, you will need a collection of Digimon cards. You will also need to learn the rules of play. Players with greater knowledge of the attack and defense values assigned to each Digimon will be at an advantage during the attack phase of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather together your Digimon game cards. There are four card types: Digimon (character cards you will play the game with), Digidestined (special cards that can enhance a card attack or defense), Digivolve (cards that are used in conjunction with Digimon cards to take your character to a higher level), and Digi-Modify (wild cards that can be played at any time for various uses).

    • 2

Set up the game. Each player should shuffle his Digimon cards and place his play mat in front of him. Each player should then cut the cards of the player next to him and place the cut cards on the upper, left corner of the play mat.

    • 3

Flip a coin to determine who will begin the game. Each player should then draw five cards from their Digimon card decks, and place them in the appropriate slots on their play mats.

    • 4

Begin play. The first player draws two cards from the top of his deck and places any character cards he pulled into the attack row on his play mat.

    • 5

Move to the "bring online" phase of play. The current player may move any rookie Digimon cards into his Digivolve card row. When he does so, his turn is either over or it continues into the Digivolve phase.

    • 6

Increase the power of your card during the Digivolve phase. The current player can choose to raise the power of one card in his Digivolve row on his play mat using any Digivolve card he has already drawn. When he does so, his turn is over.

    • 7

Move up to two cards from your Digivolve row to your attack row, and move on to the attack phase.

    • 8

Choose a card from an opponent's attack row to fight with a card from your attack row. The winner is determined by whether the attack number on the attacking card is higher than the defense number on the defending card. The winner takes points equal to the difference between the two numbers, and a losing defender card is discarded to that player's off-line pile.

    • 9

Alternate turns between players. The game continues until one player has amassed 7,500 points.
