Instructions
Brainstorm with your kids what types of buildings you can create for a toy town (fire station, school, grocery store, pet store). Gather up enough empty boxes to create stores, buildings and houses.
Cover cardboard boxes with colorful construction paper. Draw windows and doors on the front of each box.
Cut out magazine pictures to add to the buildings. Add pictures of food to the grocery store, flower to florist shop, and so on. Embellish the buildings with glitter paint, markers or stickers.
Make trees for a toy town out of cardboard tubes and green construction paper. Cut out a irregular shape from the green construction paper and glue it to the front of the cardboard tube. Add branches, leaves, or fruit with markers for more detail.
Create a winding river from strips of blue construction paper, cut into curves and taped together.
Lay out a street grid with string or yarn, held in place by tape. Make four or five blocks, and line the cardboard buildings up on either side.
Get out the toy cars and truck and enjoy playing with your homemade toy town.
