How to Make a Sound Button for a Stuffed Animal

Many stuffed animals come with a "squeeze me" button that plays a recorded message or sound effect when you squeeze the button. These are particularly entertaining for young children. When creating your own stuffed animals, you may wish to add such a button and a recorded message of your own. You can also open up a favorite stuffed animal and add a sound button, then sew it back together. Before placing the unit in the stuffed animal, you can record a voice message or a portion of a favorite song.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the seam ripper to open the seam near the location where you would like to place the sound button. If you are creating your own stuffed animal, leave a seam open where you would like to place the button.

    • 2

Open the battery compartment of the recordable squeeze button module and install the battery if necessary. Many units come with the battery already installed.

    • 3

Insert the CD into the CD player and pause it right before the portion of the song you wish to use. If you are recording a voice message, rehearse it a few times before proceeding.

    • 4

Press and hold the recording button attached to the unit and start the CD player or speak your message. Release the button when you are finished. The recording button is often attached to a red and black wire. Other models have a switch that you must move to the "Rec" setting, then squeeze the chip to record.

    • 5

Press the playback button to play back the message. If the message was not properly recorded, repeat step 4 to record it again. The playback button is often attached to a yellow and black wire. Other models have a switch that must be moved to the "Play" setting. Squeeze the chip for playback.

    • 6

Place all of the wires and buttons except the playback button against the main box of the module and tape them against it with masking tape. This will keep the buttons from being pressed accidentally once the unit is inside the stuffed animal.

    • 7

Put the module inside the stuffed animal near the chest and put the playback button in one paw so that the message plays back when the paw is squeezed.

    • 8

Use the needle and thread to sew up the seam.
