How Can I Make a Soft Stuffed Ring?

Infants begin teething as early as 3 weeks old. The first teething toys are stuffed cloth animals or shapes. Cloth rings are perfect for little hands that are not coordinated enough to manipulate larger more complex shapes or animals. Stuffed fabric rings are an excellent teething toy that can be made in an small amount of time. When these toys get too dirty to give them to the baby, a quick wash in a washing machine will make them brand new again.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the fabric into strips 10 inches long by 3 inches wide. Use a variety of fabrics to stimulate the baby's fingers with different textures.

    • 2

Fold the right sides of the fabric together and sew along the lengthwise edge with a ¼-inch seam allowance.

    • 3

Turn the tubes right side out and stuff with batting. Tear small pieces of batting at a time and use the dull end of a skewer to insert it into the tube.

    • 4

Sew one end of all the tubes closed. And push the batting down to the seam. Too much batting will keep the rings from bending correctly, so do not overfill.

    • 5

Fold the open end in on itself and insert the sewn end into the open end to make a ring. Pin shut with a straight pin.

    • 6

Sew the ring closed. Repeat with the next tube but insert it into the first ring to form a chain.

    • 7

Link as many of these together as you like, just make sure the chain is short enough the baby cannot wrap it around its neck.
