How to Know If Your Ty Beanie Baby Is a Girl or a Boy

Most Beanie Babies are either male or female. All Beanie Babies have a name or title and a description printed on a tag. The name appears both on the cardboard tag and the cloth tag, but the description only shows up on the tag. If you do not have the cardboard tag any more, you can read the description on the About Beanies website. If the poem doesn't use any gender pronouns, like the California State Bear, then it's impossible to tell the gender.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the heart tag on the Beanie Baby. Do not tug on the tag.

    • 2

Read the name on the tag. Some of the names indicate the gender of the Beanie Baby. For example, Tom Kitten, Tommy (turkey) and Pierre (Canadian Bear) use male-specific names. Patti (platypus), Mum (bear) and Lizzy (lizard) are names generally used with females.

    • 3

Read the poem on the tag. Seek out pronouns in the lines of the poem to discover the gender, which helps if the name isn't indication enough. The poems describe where the Beanie Baby lives, history or facts.
