Setup and Conversation
Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw in the battery door and open it.
Put four AA batteries into the battery compartment, close the battery door and tighten the screw.
Push the on-off switch, located beneath the battery door, to the on position. Your Furby will say its name.
Respond to questions that Furby asks by consulting the Furbish-English dictionary. For example, say "ee-tay" for "yes," "ee-tay-doo-mah" for "yes, please," "boo" for "no" and "dah-boo" for "no way." If you don't understand what Furby is saying, say "I don't understand." Furby will try to rephrase the question using more English. If you say "I don't understand" too often, your Furby will get frustrated.
Get your Furby's attention by saying, "Hey, Furby!" Wait for it to respond, "Doo?" which means, "Yeah?"
Ask your Furby to tell a joke or story, sing a song, or ask "Do you want to play?" Furbie will talk or sing in a mixture of Furbish and English. The more you talk to your Furby, the more English it learns.
If Furby is playing a game that involves counting and you need it to start over, press its tummy. Whenever you start playing any game with Furby, it will begin by telling you the rules. If you've played the game before and want to skip the instructions, press Furby's tummy.
Ask Furby, "Are you hungry?" If your Furby is hungry, feed it "pretend" food or press down on its tongue. Continue feeding your Furby until it tells you it's no longer hungry.
Put Furby to sleep by saying "Hey, Furby!" Wait for it to respond, "Doo?" and say, "Go to sleep." If Furby says "no," try feeding it.
Wake your Furby by whistling. If it doesn't hear you, tickle its tummy or pet its back.
Make Furby dance by saying, "Hey, Furby!" Wait for it to respond, "Doo?" and say, "Show me a dance."
Tell your Furby "I love you" often to keep it happy.
Speak to your Furby in its native language by saying, "Hey, Furby!" Wait for it to respond, "Doo?" and say, "I speak Furbish," then say a word or phrase in Furbish. You must repeat this routine each time you want to converse in Furbish.
Erase your Furby's memory by resetting it. Hold your Furby upside down. Push the on-off switch to off. Push and hold the mouth sensor on Furby's tongue while pushing the on-off switch back on. Furby will say, "Good morning!" to let you know that its memory was reset.
Other Play
Tickle your Furby's tummy when it asks you to, but don't tickle your Furby at any other time or it will get upset.
Pet your Furby's back to make it happy.
Hold your Furby right-side up when you carry or cuddle it or it might get dizzy.
Help your Furby to get acquainted with another Furby. Press the Furbies' tummies together until they blink their eyes and begin talking to each other. Keep them in this position or separate them, but move them no more than 3 inches apart.
