Things You'll Need
Instructions
Design your penguin by making an exact plan and pattern. Use a pencil and cardboard to sketch the design, like creating a sewing pattern for an item of clothing. This will determine how big your toy will be and how much material you will need. You will need a small circle for the head of the penguin and a bigger circle for the body. You will also need an oval shape for the tummy and a triangle for the feet.
Transfer the templates for the parts of the penguin̵7;s body to the corresponding colors of the fabric. Trace the patterns with tailor chalk from your cardboard pattern, or simply draw the shapes again directly on the textile. You will need two smaller circles for the head and two circles for the body from the black fabric, one oval shape from the white fabric and three triangle shapes from the orange fabric.
Cut the shapes from the fabric using strong, sharp tailor scissors.
Sew together the two small circles and the two bigger circles, leaving a small opening in each of the shapes. Make sure that the fabric is upside-down. Use a sewing machine for this part of the project. Repeat with the orange triangles, again, leaving a small opening and keeping the fabric upside-down.
Turn all the pieces to the right side of the fabric and stuff all five with the stuffing of your choice. Keep in mind that the three orange bags need to be stuffed as much as possible to retain a firm shape, since they will represent the beak and the two feet. The remaining two shapes, the head and the body, can be slightly understuffed, or stuffed with beans and pellets.
Close the openings on the five bags of fabric once they are properly stuffed. This time, use a needle and a thread. At this point, you will have all the elements needed for the penguin.
Sew together the body parts with a needle and a thread. Then sew on the white oval, for the penguin̵7;s stomach, using an embroidery needle and thread.
Attach buttons or plastic elements for eyes, two loose, flapping pieces of black fabric for wings or anything else you might want to add to your stuffed penguin design.
