Instructions

  1. Making the Parts

    • 1

Turn both socks inside out and flatten them. One sock should have the heel on the side while the other sock should have the heel sitting in the middle. The centered heel will be the monkey's butt.

    • 2

Draw a straight line on the sock with the centered heel, 1 ½ inches below the heel to the bottom of the cuff. Secure with straight pins. Sew from the top of the line and ¼ inch from the side and down, where you'll round the bottom for the foot. Do the same for the other side of the line to finish the legs.

    • 3

Cut from the bottom of the line to the top of it. Next, remove the pins and turn the sock back right-side through the hole that's left at the top of the legs.

    • 4

Mark a line from the top of the other sock to the bottom and 1 inch from the side away from the heel. Pin the sock together to keep it from moving and sew on the line from the top of the cuff to the bottom of the toe.

    • 5

Remove the pins and cut ¼ inch from the the top of the line to the bottom. Turn the tail right-side out by pulling the bottom of the tail up through the opening. Next, take the rest of the sock and cut it just above and below the heel, so that there are three pieces.

    • 6

Open the longer piece and cut it long-wise down the middle. Fold both pieces long-wise and pin the edges together. Sew the length of both arms, making sure to round off the bottom of the toe for the hands. Take the pins out and turn right-side out.

    • 7

Pin the short piece of sock together long-wise so the edges are even and draw two oval for ears. Stick a pin through each ear and sew both ears on the lines. Cut the ears out, leaving a ¼ inch hem and remove the pins. Turn the ears right-side out.

    Assembling the Sock Monkey

    • 8

Stuff batting through the hole and fill your sock monkey's legs and body as full as you want. Fold the edges of the hole inward and sew shut by hand.

    • 9

Fill the tail with batting. Fold the edges of the opening inward and sew by hand to the monkey's back, right above its butt. Next, stuff each arm with batting and sew to the monkey's body, making sure to turn the edges in.

    • 10

Sew each ear to the side of the monkey's head. Next, tuck under the edges of the heel and sew to the front of the head, leaving a small opening. Stuff the face with as much batting as you want and then finish sewing shut.

    • 11

Embroider the monkey's mouth onto the stuffed face. Next, sew two buttons on the face for the monkey's eyes. You sock monkey is now finished.
