Chemicals
The best way to treat your kiddie pool water is to use the proper chemicals. Because a child&'s pool is much smaller, be sure to use appropriate doses to avoid causing irritation to the child&'s skin and eyes. Chlorine and algaecides are available where pool supplies are sold.
Test Kit
Buy a chlorine test kit while purchasing your chemicals. It&'s much safer to test the levels of chemicals in your kiddie pool before the children step in.
Brushes
To keep treated water clean, you must also ensure the floor and sides of the pool are free of dirt and grime. A stiff, plastic brush will help dislodge any grime from the sides of the pool.
Ready-made Kits
There are several kits available that will take the guesswork out of adding chemicals to your pool. Kiddy Safe Paddling Pool Treatment has premeasured packets of algaecide to add to every 1000 liters, or approximately 265 gallons, of water, and the Ace Kiddie Pool Maintenance Kit comes with a vacuum, brush, and chlorine test kit.
Natural Choices
Alternatively, you can use a more natural approach to treat your kiddie pool water. Using baking soda to scrub the bottom and walls of the pool will help keep algae at bay, and adding a cup or two of white or apple cider vinegar to the water will deter bugs and their larvae from taking up residence. The only downfall is the powerful smell, but if the kids accidentally swallow water treated with vinegar, it&'s completely harmless.
