How to Build a Pink Teddy Bear

Pink teddy bears are common gifts for newborn babies, young girls and adult women. However, it is very rarely that we get teddy bears made at home especially with us in mind. If you plan to give someone a pink teddy bear and want to really make an impression, it might be an idea to make one yourself. First, the effort you have gone to will make the gift extra special. Secondly, you can decide its look, material and accessories. You can also personalize it by sewing on the recipient's name or including accessories that fit the recipient.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a teddy bear pattern that has been drawn to scale. You can find a wide variety of them online or in craft books.

    • 2

Cut each of the teddy bear's body parts out of the pattern sheet. These paper cuttings will act as templates.

    • 3

Fold all your pieces of fabric in two. If your fabric has two different sides, fold it with the side that you intend for your teddy bear folded in.

    • 4

Lay the paper templates on the fabric and cut around them. You will have two identical pieces of fabric for each body part. Your teddy bear will have pairs of ears, arms and legs. For these body parts, you will need to cut out four identical pieces of fabric.

    • 5

Pin together the pieces of fabric that need to be sewn together to produce the teddy's body parts, with the fabric still inside-out.

    • 6

Sew the sets of fabric together by stitching along their edges. Leave a slit somewhere on each body part.

    • 7

Cut out small triangles starting from the outer edge of each body part to the sewing line. Do this all around the edge of each body part, except where you have left a slit for the stuffing.

    • 8

Turn each body part right side out. The triangular slits should ensure the teddy bear's edges are smooth.

    • 9

Fill each body part with generous amounts of cotton stuffing, then sew the slits closed.

    • 10

Sew each body part to the main body of the teddy bear.

    • 11

Mark where you want each eye to go with a pin.

    • 12

Pass a piece of thread through the loop at the back of a glass eye and tie a knot so the eye is connected to the thread. Pass one end of thread through the eye of a needle, take out a pin and sew the eye tightly in its place. Cut away any excess string. Repeat with the other eye.

    • 13

Mark lines for the teddy's mouth using pins. Embroider along the pins. Remove all the pins when you have finished.

    • 14

Outline the teddy's nose with some pins. Embroider the nose by filling in between the pins.

    • 15

Add accessories like a ribbon around the teddy's neck or buttons on its body. You could even sew your teddy some fitting clothes or a hat, have it hold something special like a stuffed heart, or embroider its owner's name onto its chest.
