How to Measure Clothes for Stuffed Animals

When making or buying clothes for a stuffed animal, it's important to know appropriate measurements. Without using specific measurements, the clothing may not fit over the animal's head or the arms may get stuck.

Measure the stuffed animal with a measuring tape. Measure the head, neck, the body from top to bottom, the body from the waist to the torso, and the width around legs and arms.

Look at stuffed animal clothes. Avoid doll clothes entirely. Stuffed animal clothes are made specifically for stuffed animals like teddy bears, which are often fatter than many dolls with the same length measurements. Check the clothing measurements before you buy. There are many businesses that sell stuffed animal clothes. These clothes are often sized according to the stuffed animal length, such as eight inches from top to foot. Look for sizing before measuring.

Take the measuring tape and check the measurements. While the length measurements might match, the arm and leg measurements need to match or be very close if a little tight or loose. Measure the opening for the head according to the neck measurement. If the clothes do not have buttons, the measurement must be larger than the neck to get it over the stuffed animal's head, though the head can squish a little.
