How to Re-Stuff an Old Stuffed Animal

Stuffed animals often become a favorite and cherished toy. In the process, old stuffed animals become bedraggled in appearance: their seams become ripped and the stuffing comes out. An old stuffed animal doesn't have to be thrown away. Re-stuffing the toy can breathe new life into it and provide many more years of love to its owner.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out loose threads or open a seam with a seam ripper. To remove old stuffing and make room for new stuffing you need an opening in the seam large enough to fit two fingers.

    • 2

Pull out old stuffing and throw it away in a garbage bag. Stuffing from a very old stuffed animal can contain mildew spores or may have an unpleasant odor.

    • 3

Push new stuffing into the cavity of your stuffed animal. Fill the appendages first and make sure to push the stuffing into the ends of the arms and legs, as well as the top of the head. Add more stuffing to fill the body cavity to your preference.

A few simple straight stitches hold the seam together on your stuffed animal.

Sew the open seam back together with a sewing needle and thread in a color that matches the stuffed animal.
