Can I Replace My EVX With an EVX2?

The EVX-2 is an updated version of Traxxas̵7; EVX Electronic speed controller (ESC). There are two versions of the EVX, a land-based controller and a marine ESC built with protection from moisture in mind for use with RC boats. There are no changes in the physical connectors between the EVX and the EVX-2; this allows for easy replacement of the older ESC with a newer unit.
  1. EVX ESC Information

    • The ESC in a remote-controlled vehicle controls the level of power that the motors use from the battery supply; this, in turn, controls the speed of the vehicle. Both the EVX and EVX-2 electronic speed controllers are of an advanced design that can draw power from dual battery packs and direct it to two motors to allow for an increase in speed for the vehicles that use the controller.

    EVX Controller Features

    • The EVX is an advanced controller that uses two six-cell charged battery packs connected in a series to offer a total of 12 cells for 14.4 volts of electric power. With a full 12 cells available, the EVX is able to provide full forward power to the two installed engines or 25 percent reverse power for speedy backwards movements. The EVX also contains special safety features that provide protection against thermal shutdown due to overheating, as well as steering control for a short period of time after the batteries become discharged.

    EVX-2 Controller Updated Features

    • The EVX-2 ESC updates several of the features of the EVX to allow for greater flexibility in use and extended runtimes. Instead of the 12-cell only battery limitation with the EVX, the EVX 2 can use from six to 14 battery cells for better control over the available power for your vehicle. In addition, the EVX-2 has three heat sinks attached that dissipate much of the heat produced when running the vehicle; this reduces the overheating that can result in thermal shutdown, allowing the vehicle to operate for longer periods.

    Replacement Process

    • To replace the EVX with the EVX-2 you̵7;ll need to access the interior of the vehicle, usually by removing the clips or screws holding the model body onto the chassis. Once you can access the vehicle̵7;s interior, the replacement process is an easy one. You only need to unplug all of the connectors between the EVX and the motor, batteries and remote receiver, and then pull it from the vehicle body. The EVX-2 has the same design and dimensions, so it slides right into the space where the EVX sat. Once you reattach the connections in the same pattern as with the EVX, you can restore the model body and begin using the new controller just as you did the older EVX model.
