How to Install a Jackshaft for Go-Karts

The jackshaft is a short shaft in a vehicle that connects the motor to the parts that do the driving in a vehicle. In a go-kart, the jackshaft is the main component that transmits power and allows it to move with speed and power. The jackshaft is also called the rotational shaft. It makes sure that all motorized part move in sync with each other, and is is usually located on the frame of the go-kart.

Jackshaft steel plate
Double sprocket
Hex head bolts

Instructions

  Install the wide pedal crank as well as the pedal sprocket. This is the first step in installing the jackshaft.

  Mount the bracket to the engine and make sure it is level. Check the thread sizes and then install the centrifugal clutch assembly.

  Slide the clutch onto the shaft and make sure the key is aligned to the slot. Then slide the gear bell housing on the shaft.

  Install the gear box with two short screws and then tap the center or middle gear so it is aligned properly. Place a spacer on the middle gear so it can operate without impediment.

  Install the gear box cover and close it tight with two long screws and one short one.
