How to Make a Matchbox Car Track

The allure of automobiles can become fascinating to children and lead to the hobby of matchbox car collecting. Matchbox cars feature automobiles from a wide range of classifications including racing cars, trucks and motorcycles. Children can use household items to create race tracks for imaginary competitions. Items such as books, cardboard and pencils can be placed together to make a racetrack for all of your Matchbox cars.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away a tile or wooden floor such as one you will find in your kitchen or bedroom. Maneuvering the Matchbox cars is easier when playing on these types of floors.

    • 2

Break down the cardboard boxes and split them apart. Separate each section from each other and place them on the ground. The sections of cardboard will serve as the track for your racecars. For additional detail, you can draw a race course pattern on the pieces of board.

    • 3

Stack the books against each other to create rises of varying heights. Lean sections of the cardboard against the stacks of books to create ramps to use with the Matchbox cars.

    • 4

Continue placing sections of cardboard down on the ground to complete the race track. You can bring the pieces together using tape to keep them from separating when pushing the cars along. You can make the track as short or as long as desired, depending upon how many pieces of cardboard you choose to use.
