How to Make a Monster Truck Out of a Shoebox

Imaginative children will have no trouble creating a toy out of an empty shoebox. If your child shows creative or artistic ability, encourage them to make their favorite toy vehicle from a shoebox. A monster truck is relatively easy to construct in a short amount of time, and will provide hours or entertainment for your child when it is finished.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Find an old shoebox and empty it of its contents. Remove the lid so that the top is open. If this requires scissors, carefully supervise your child.

    • 2

Paint the box the color you want your truck to be. Spread newspapers on the table or ground to protect surfaces from paint spills. Let the paint dry completely before continuing with the project.

    • 3

Collect four small paper plates for the wheels of the monster truck. Paint the inner circle of the plates grey and the outside circle black. Wait until the paint dries before gluing the wheels to the truck at the bottom corners of the shoebox.

    • 4

Trace and cut out one rectangle and two squares from construction paper. Use blue or white paper as these shapes will simulate the windshield and windows of the monster truck. Glue the rectangle to the front of the box and the squares to the sides.

    • 5

Create the bumper of your truck by cutting out a long strip of light colored construction paper. Measure the strip so that it is as long as the front of the box. Glue it to the lower front of the box.

    • 6

Make the headlights by cutting out two yellow circles from the construction paper. Affix them to the front of the truck right above the bumper and below the windows using glue.
