How to Make RC Snow Plows

Building an RC snowplow is an exciting challenge for the wintertime and gives truck hobbyists an alternative for manually shoveling snow. However, your custom plow requires the right tools, which include aluminum and basic hardware supplies. If you are willing to do some manual labor, you can build a completely functional snowplow that will work on most four-wheel-drive radio controlled vehicles.

Things You'll Need

  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Sheet of aluminum
  • Sheet metal screws
  • Drill
  • Utility knife
  • Model paint (optional)
  • Paintbrush (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a design that requires minimal construction costs. Stationary plows are the most cost-effective models to build and will experience fewer mechanical issues than plows that perform multiple functions.

    • 2

Measure the width of the front end of your remote-controlled truck and the length from the front of the truck to the floor. This will determine how wide you can make the plow and ensure that the plow is properly aligned on the truck. A plow that is placed unevenly on your truck will perform in an unstable manner and may end up damaging the front end of the RC truck.

    • 3

Measure the aluminum with a felt tip marker where it needs to be cut. Use a utility knife to cut the aluminum sheeting. Your panel should measure 18 inches wide by 7 inches tall; score it with the knife until it bends smoothly away from the sheet.

    • 4

Lay the aluminum flat and bend the metal from top to bottom to create the shape of the plow.

    • 5

Drill two holes on the front of the truck. Drill two screws through the plow to mount the top half of the plow to the truck. Make sure the plow remains straight. Paint the plow if desired and let dry overnight.
