Things You'll Need
Instructions
Use a small screwdriver, such as the kind that comes with an eyeglasses repair set, to remove the trucks from your fingerboard. Set all the screws and bolts aside on a white napkin so you know exactly where to find them later.
Hold a flame from a lighter close to the fingerboard and run it along the surface. Do this for 10 to 20 seconds, making sure that nothing catches fire, and then peel off any old grip tape or surfacing.
Open the package of Riptape and remove a single strip of tape. The pre-cut version will fit most standard fingerboards.
Peel off the backing of the Riptape and discard it. This reveals the sticky side of the Riptape.
Lay the sheet of Riptape on the surface of the fingerboard with the sticky side down. Use your fingers to smooth it out so there are no lumps or air bubbles beneath the tape.
Scrape the edges of the fingerboard using the blunt side of a butter knife. This allows the new griptape to set and keeps it from peeling off.
Replace the trucks using the screwdriver and bolts. Then enjoy your newly surfaced fingerboard.
