How to Fly an Air Hogs Hawk Eye

The Hawk Eye is a radio-controlled (RC) helicopter with an onboard video camera, enabling the pilot to get a bird's-eye view of his surroundings. This one-of-a-kind vehicle is a great surveillance device during backyard games and in-house rounds of spy on your sibling! Learning how to properly navigate this enhanced helicopter will help you get the best view, while reducing the chances of damaging your vehicle or injuring yourself.

Turn on the helicopter and transmitter, then place the aircraft in a flat, wide-open space. Apply throttle with the left joystick to lift the vehicle about 1 foot off the ground, then adjust the trim to correct any unwanted rotation. "Trim" refers to the process of delicately adjusting the helicopter's rotational force to prevent the fuselage from spinning uncontrollably. If your helicopter spins counterclockwise, turn the trim adjustment knob (located on the transmitter) to the right until the vehicle flies perfectly straight. Turn the knob to the left to correct unwanted clockwise rotation.

Use the left joystick to adjust the flying height of the helicopter. If you want the vehicle to ascend, apply more thrust; if you want it to descend, reduce the power to the rotors by lowering the joystick toward neutral. To hover, apply enough vertical thrust to keep the helicopter at one altitude; adjust the force up or down to maintain this position.

Use the right, or steering, joystick to turn the helicopter left or right. For example, to turn the helicopter clockwise, move the steering joystick to the right. Combine the action of both joysticks to navigate the helicopter in a three-dimensional space.

Engage the video camera by pressing the "Video" button on the top left side of the transmitter one time. A red LED light will start blinking on the front of the helicopter to indicate that you are recording. Press the button again to stop recording. Take a photograph by pressing the "Photo" button on the top right side of the transmitter. Pressing it will take a single picture. Download your flight footage by using the USB key that came with your Hawk Eye. Plug the USB end of the included cord into a USB port on your computer and the smaller end of the cord into the Hawk Eye transmitter. When your computer recognizes the Hawk Eye as a disk drive, drag and drop the files onto your desktop to view them.

Land the helicopter by steadily decreasing the thrust, using the left joystick. As the helicopter approaches the ground, slightly increase the throttle to reduce the impact of the landing. Once the vehicle is on the ground, reduce the throttle completely, then wait for the rotors to stop moving before approaching the Hawk Eye.
