How to Fly an Air Hog Miniature Helicopter

Air Hog miniature helicopters require patience and practice to control correctly, and must be operated in the correct conditions to avoid crashes -- namely, indoors. Due to their light weight, they are subject to crashing by even the slightest breeze. Making it further impossible to use these toys outdoors is their infrared controller, which is adversely affected by sunlight.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the toy helicopter on the floor in a wide open area. It is necessary before attempting to direct the flight of the helicopter to set the trim, which is located on the radio controller. Turn on the power to both the controller and the helicopter.

    • 2

Move the control stick (which moves up and down) all the way up, then all the way down. This prepares the helicopter to fly. This control stick determines the speed of the rotor blades, and thus, the height at which the helicopter flies. The control stick that moves in all directions determines the flight path of the helicopter.

    • 3

Push the rotor speed control stick up until the rotors begin to spin, then continue to push until the helicopter hovers about a foot off of the floor. It will likely begin spinning. Adjust the trim control knob on the side of the radio control until the helicopter stops spinning and stabilizes.

    • 4

Increase the speed of the rotors to raise the helicopter to approximately 5 feet off the ground and practice first moving the helicopter forward, then back. When you are comfortable with this, practice moving the helicopter left and right. Finally, when you get a feel for the controls, fly the helicopter while minutely adjusting the control sticks to direct the course of the helicopter through the air.
