Esky 25A Speed Controller Installation

An electronic speed control (ESC) is responsible for delivering the raw energy of a battery to the moving parts of a radio-controlled vehicle in accordance with the commands received from the transmitter. It is important that your aircraft's ESC is functioning properly to ensure optimum performance, while minimizing any risk of damage or injury. Learning how to install your Esky 25A ESC will give you the confidence to soar.

Things You'll Need

  • Esky 25A ESC
  • Esky RC aircraft
  • Double-sided tape
  • Soldering iron
  • Solder
  • LiPo battery pack

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a small quarter-inch section of double sided tape, then peel one side and stick it to the back of the electronic speed control (ESC). Choose a location inside the airplane to mount the device, then peel the other side of the tape, and press the ESC firmly against the frame.

Connect the three wires leading from the ESC to the brushless motor's tabs. Brushless systems require three wires because of the design of brushless motors. The ESC will actually oscillate between which two wires are energized as the motor is active. Connect the red (+), blue (neutral), and black (-) wires to their corresponding terminals; each of the three metal terminals on the motor are labeled according to their respective polarities. Press the corresponding ESC wire to the motor tab with the heated tip of the solder iron, then apply a small amount of solder to coat the connection. Remove the iron and wiggle the wire to ensure a proper connection. Repeat this process for all three connections.

Plug the flat, black plug into the first input on the receiver inside the aircraft. This wire is responsible for delivering radio signals from the receiver to the ESC, which then manipulates the vehicle's controls. The plug will only fit into the receiver in a certain direction -- so do not force it if it doesn't fit easily.

Plug the final two-pronged plug into a fully charged battery pack. The ESC is designed for use with a LiPo battery, since they are the lightest, most powerful option for RC aircraft. Match the black (-) and red (+) wires up with the same colors leading from the battery. If there aren't colors, match the polarity according to positive (+) and negative (-).
