Instructions
Loosen the four wheels using the 8 mm wrench, then pull them off the chassis and set them aside. Unscrew the six bolts that secure the U-shaped body mount to the chassis, then pull it from the chassis.
Unclip the two fasteners from underneath the fuel tank, then pull it up and out of the chassis. Unscrew the two bolts that hold the front stabilizer bars to the chassis -- they are thin metal rods with plastic cup-links on either end; disconnect the end that is secured to the chassis. Use the 1.5 mm hex wrench to unscrew the plug bolt from the bottom of the shifter mechanism, then loosen the bolt that secures the top of it to the engine. Remove the shifter mechanism from the chassis.
Remove the two bolts that secure the bottom end of the two inner shocks to the axles. Fold the shocks up to clear them out of the way. Loosen the 9 bolts that fasten the protective frame to the left-side of the chassis. Pull the frame off to expose the transmission. Unscrew the four bolts that affix the transmission to the chassis, then pull it up and out of the chassis, while simultaneously disconnecting the wishbone axles from either side of it. Pull the transmission straight up, then rock it to the left and right to disconnect the axles.
Loosen the two bolts that secure the input gears to the side of the transmission. Slide off the coil washer, flat washer, shim, gear and the two washers behind it off the input shaft, then unscrew the bolt from the right output shaft -- located below the input shaft -- and slide the shifter wheel off. Unscrew the plug-bold from the output shaft, then slide the output yolk off the driveshaft.
Loosen the 7 screws from the transmission housing, then pull apart the two halves to expose the gears inside. Remove the shaft that holds the three shifter gears in position. Pop the E-clip off the end of the drive shaft, then slide the spacer and the three gears off. Pull the gears off one another, then set the four metal rods to the side.
Install the replacement gears onto the driveshaft. The initial gears are: 18-tooth low gear; 21-tooth medium gear; 24-tooth high gear. Improve your vehicle's acceleration by installing a gear with fewer teeth than 18. Improve your vehicle's top speed by installing a gear with more teeth than 24 teeth. Install a middle gear that is equidistant between the low and high gear to ensure smooth shifting. Slide the high gear onto the driveshaft, then insert the four metal pins into the holes that surround the center hole. Slide the middle and low gear onto those four pins to ensure the gears are correctly installed.
Apply a few drops of gear lubricant, then slide the spacer onto the driveshaft, and snap the E-clip back onto the end of the driveshaft -- closest to the low gear. Slide the driveshaft (high-gear first) into the transmission housing, then snap the other half into place. Seal the transmission closed with the 7 mounting screws.
Slide the output yolk back onto the driveshaft, then secure it by tightening the plug bolt. Reinstall the shifter wheel onto the right output shaft, then tighten the plug bolt into the nut to fasten the output yolk in position. Insert the small metal rod into the input shaft, then install the disk washer onto the input shaft, fitting the rod into the indentation on the back of the disk.
Install the ring-shaped washer onto the input shaft, and position it so that the two pegs on the disk fit into the two holes on the ring. Slide the input gear onto the shaft, then slide the bushing, flat washer, coil washer and the end bolt onto the input shaft. Tighten the end bolt to secure everything to the shaft.
Insert the wishbone axles into the two output yolks of the transmission, then secure the transmission housing to the chassis by tightening the four mounting screws. Reconnect the side frame by tightening the 9 fastener screws. Rotate the two inner shocks back into their proper orientation, then secure them to the axles with the two mounting bolts.
Connect the stability rods to the underside of the chassis with the two mounting screws. Reinstall the shifting mechanism by tightening the plug bolt into the bottom, and the long bolt into the top -- attaching it to the engine and the shifter disk. Slide the gas tank back into position, then fasten it to the chassis by reinserting the two fastener clips. Connect the U-Shaped body mount to the chassis by tightening the 6 mounting screws.
Slide the four wheels back onto the axles, then use the 8 mm wrench to secure them with the four mounting nuts.
