How to Align Radio Control Transmitters

The transmitter is your only method of communicating with your radio-controlled (RC) vehicle. Radio signals move from the antennas down to the receiver, which then directs the different mechanical devices in accordance with your commands. In order to successfully navigate your RC vehicle, it is important that you align your transmitter's settings up with the mechanics of the model. Aligning your transmitter will ensure that you maintain absolute control over your vehicle.

Instructions

  1. Helicopter

    • 1

Turn on the transmitter and receiver, then place the aircraft on a flat, wide-open surface.

    • 2

Apply enough throttle to lift the helicopter a foot off the ground. Use the trim alignment on the transmitter, located below the steering joystick, to adjust the helicopter's movement. To compensate for a clockwise rotation, slide the alignment to the right; to correct a counter-clockwise spin, move the adjuster to the left. Make small adjustments until the helicopter body no longer spins uncontrollably.

    • 3

Place the helicopter on a flat surface, then adjust the idle throttle, located beneath the throttle joystick on the transmitter. Reduce the idle setting by moving the trim adjuster down, or increase by sliding it up. Make incremental adjustments until the rotor blades no longer spin when the throttle joystick is in idle position.

    Car, Truck or Boat

    • 4

Turn on the vehicle, then place it on a flat, wide-open surface.

    • 5

Adjust the idle throttle setting by moving the adjuster located beneath the throttle joystick. Move the throttle trim adjuster down to reduce the idle setting if the vehicle lurches forward; slide the throttle trim up to stop the vehicle from moving backward. Make gradual adjustments until the vehicle no longer moves when the throttle joystick is in its idle position.

    • 6

Adjust the steering trim with the adjuster located beneath the steering joystick. Apply some forward throttle to assess the vehicle's trajectory. Move the steering trim to the left to stop the vehicle from veering to the right; move the steering trim to the right to stop the vehicle from veering to the left. Make gradual adjustments until the vehicle drives in a perfectly straight line.

    • 7

Drive the vehicle to test that all settings are correct.
