How to Modify the Air Hog Reflex

Air Hogs makes remote control vehicles. The more popular Air Hogs remote control vehicles are their helicopters. The Air Hogs Reflex has two rotators and dual thrust propellers. Air Hogs has retired this helicopter. However, you can modify the helicopter to make it fly better under more control. Completing the modifications takes just a few minutes time to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the styrofoam body from the helicopter. Use an exacto knife to work at the glued seams of the helicopter. Place a small screwdriver into any gaps you created and work down the seam of the body until the body pieces fall off. This will lower the weight of the helicopter, increasing it's performance. A lighter helicopter will be more responsive to the controls and will allow for longer flight times. It will also fly faster.

    • 2

Insert a tail boom between the back thrusters of the helicopter. A tail boom can be any small object that will add a small amount of weight beyond the length of the propeller blades. You can use a small glow stick or even small dow rod to create the tail boom. The boom will add stability while the helicopter is in flight, allowing better controlling. A common issue with the Reflex is that the helicopter sometimes spins uncontrollably. A tail boom will eliminate the spinning problem.

    • 3

Spray WD-40 under the top propeller blade. This will help lubricate the blade, allowing for better lift for the helicopter.

    • 4

Replace the antenna on the controller with a longer more powerful antenna that you can purchase at a hobby shop. A stronger antenna will allow for better controls at a longer distance.
