Why Won't My BMW M3 GTR Radio Control Car Work?

MaxTech Toys is a manufacturer of scale model and remote control vehicles. Among the models they make is a BMW M3 GTR. This electric radio control car is a detailed 1:10th scale reproduction of the ALMS race car. It features a tri-frequency remote and runs on a rechargeable NiCd battery pack. If the car is not working, there is either a problem with the vehicle or the remote.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the remote within range of the vehicle. If the car strays too far from remote, the vehicle will not receive the signal.

    • 2

Check that the batteries are properly installed in the remote and the vehicle. The remote uses a 9V battery that inserts into the bottom of the controller. The vehicle uses a rechargeable battery pack that sits in the battery bay on the bottom of the car, with a plug-in battery connector. Check that the connector is securely connected. If the rechargeable battery does not work and will not charge, replace it.

    • 3

Check that the batteries have power. If the remote does not turn on, the battery may be dead. Replace it with a new 9V battery. If the vehicle does not power up, charge the battery pack. Connect the battery to the quick charger kit, and charge it for an hour.

    • 4

Check that the remote and car are on the same frequency. The car can be run on three frequencies -- 27MHz, 40MHz and 49MHz -- so you can run multiple cars at once. Set the frequency dial on the remote to match the frequency dial on the bottom of the car.
