How to Use a RC Heli Pitch Gauge

Remote control helicopters can crash and burn, just like the real thing. Keeping your RC helicopter in working order with regular maintenance can help prevent miniature aviation disaster. One type of regular maintenance is to check the pitch of your RC helicopter's blades. You can do this by using a pitch gauge, which is a small device that measures the full rotation of the blades for optimal throttle. With this measurement, you can determine if your blade's pitch control links require adjustment.

Things You'll Need

  • RC helicopter
  • Pitch gauge
  • Rubber bands

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a rubber band around the tail boom and flybar of an RC helicopter. This will help keep the flybar level during the testing process.

    • 2

Set the throttle hold on the transmitter to "On." This will prevent the blade from rotating during testing.

    • 3

      Plug in the battery.

    • 4

Turn on your transmitter and move the throttle control to its midpoint.

    • 5

Slide the pitch gauge over the helicopter blade with the gauge numbers facing you.

    • 6

Adjust the pitch gauge so the top line of the gauge is parallel with the helicopter's flybar. The reading should be "0."

    • 7

Push the throttle control to its highest position and read the number on the pitch gauge. This is the top point of your pitch range.

    • 8

Push the throttle stick to its lowest position and read the number on the pitch gauge. This is the bottom point of your pitch range.
