Erector Sets Instructions

Created in 1911 by A.C. Gilbert and manufactured beginning with 1913, Erector sets continue to delight and entertain children while stimulating creativity and providing hours of fun. Suited for children eight years and older, most Erector set models provide easy-to-advanced diagrams for assembling three-dimensional objects. Whether a child wants to explore the world of building automobiles, planes, construction equipment, helicopters, buildings and more, Erector has a set that will take them on that journey. Keep all parts of an Erector set away from small children and allow a lot of table or floor space for construction to begin.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize Erector set pieces by shape and size. Comprised of dozens of small and intricate pieces, the miniature Erector 3 Model Set, the bulldozer, for example, includes 110 pieces while the Erector Ferris wheel includes nearly 500 parts. Establish how many of the same pieces there are and that this number corresponds to the directions. Verify all pieces are intact and have not suffered any damage before beginning construction.

    • 2

Follow the directions completely. Erector sets involve complicated structures that require diligence and attention. Follow each step accordingly and use appropriate tools. Most Erector sets come with certain tools -- such as hex nut wrenches -- although keep standard adjustable wrenches on hand for use, if necessary.

    • 3

Secure all joints thoroughly. Held together with bolts and nuts, ensure the Erector model you are building fastens securely and that no piece is missing. Replace a missing bolt or nut with a quick visit to a home improvement or hardware store, if necessary. Bolster the appeal of your model with metal polish and a soft cloth to boost the sheen of your completed set.
