How to Power a 1/4 Scale Piper Cub

Radio controlled airplanes use miniature engines that are powered by a liquid fuel. Radio controlled aircraft, such as a 1/4 scale Piper Cub, have a fuel intake hose that is the fuel filling hose as well as the hose for the engine. Fueling these RC aircraft is a quick task, done in the flying field or in a home workshop. The RC fuel is composed of methanol, oil and nitromethane.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cowling to the Piper Cub. Gently pull the hose from the engine; the hose is a clear rubber tube. Pull only the fill end of the hose out. Leave the other side attached to the engine fuel reserve tank.

    • 2

Insert the fuel can tip into the hose end. Tip the fuel can up and over the engine and watch the fuel flow from the can to the engine.

    • 3

Stop filling when the fuel begins to back up into the hose. Tip the can over and pull the tip out of the hose. Attach the hose end to the engine and close the aircraft cowling. Wipe away and excess fuel from the cowling and Piper Cub.
