How to Make Potato Cars

Mr. And Mrs. Potato Head are planning a road trip to visit the tater tots. Their trusty potato coupe is gassed up and ready to hit the freeway. This creative project for young children utilizes some of their favorite vegetables for the potato car's wheels, headlights and bumpers. All vegetables, including the potato, can be cut and carved with a safety-minded plastic knife and potato a car-making craft session could fill a rainy weekend afternoon.

Things You'll Need

  • Large potatoes
  • Plastic knife
  • Large carrots
  • Green pepper
  • Toothpicks
  • Olives

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut the potatoes into car shapes by cutting the front 1/3 and back top section of the potatoes off with the plastic knife, leaving a center top third of the potato.

      Slice the carrots into four 1-inch thick rounds.

      Slice the green pepper into curved 1-inch wide strips.

    • 4

      Push toothpicks into the carrots and the potato for wheels. Push toothpicks into the green pepper and the fronts and backs of the potatoes for car bumpers.

      Push toothpicks into the olives and potatoes for headlights.
