How to Troubleshoot a Broken Radio Control Helicopter

Radio controlled helicopters are built to withstand crashes and falls; however, radio-controlled helicopters are not indestructible. Often times, the manufactured plastic used for building a helicopter chips or breaks, forcing users to rebuild or repair parts. Other times, radio-controlled helicopters experience signal, rotator, battery or engine issues. Regardless, users can fix most issues with simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what is broken on the helicopter. Check the main components of the device itself--engine, batteries, body and radio. By inspecting each part, you will generate a better understanding of what is broken and how you go about fixing the issue.

    • 2

Replace any damaged body parts. If there is visible damage to the helicopter, try replacing or fixing the missing part through the manufacturer. Rotor blades are often the part of an RC helicopter that breaks first. Try replacing or gluing together broken rotor blades. Other damaged body parts, such as the frame, are not essential to the operation of the device and do not need fixing to operate the helicopter.

    • 3

Fix an engine problem. Another common issue may occur with electrical problems from the battery or gas tank trying to power the engine rotators. Ensure that the battery is fully charged and properly connected to the device. Ensure the wiring from the batteries to the rotator engine is still intact. Damaged wires or damaged electrical circuits can mean the device is inoperable, and users must consult the manufacturer.

    • 4

Repair the radio controller. Ensure the controller is away from other radio devices and that the radio signal in which the plane operates is not being disrupted by another device. Replace old batteries and if problems still occur, you may have electrical issues such as water damage that only the manufacture can fix.
