Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn on the helicopter and the remote. Place the helicopter in the middle of the room.
Slowly push up the main rotor stick until the helicopter lifts off the ground. On most American RC helis, this will be the stick on the left. Decrease the throttle slightly until the helicopter stays a few feet off the ground. It may go forward or backwards and may spin left or right. After several seconds of hovering, decrease the main rotor power slightly so that the helicopter lands. Release the main rotor stick once the chopper lands.
Adjust the tail rotor trim to make the helicopter spin straight. The trim is a dial or rocker switch below the right stick. If the helicopter spun to the left when you took off, click the trim to the right slightly. If it spun to the right, adjust the trim to the left. Repeat Step 1 to lift the heli off the ground and hover. If the helicopter is still spinning, adjust the trim again until it stops, then land the heli.
Adjust the weight to control forward and backward movement. If the helicopter hovers and you would like it to go forward, slide the battery forward or tape a small piece of paper (about a centimeter square) to the front of the heli to shift the center of gravity forward. If your helicopter goes forward and you would like it to hover, move the battery backward or tape something to the back of the helicopter's fuselage. Take off, hover and land to see how the helicopter handles. You may have to adjust the weight several times before it does what you want it to.
Place the heli in the center of the room again. Gently throttle up the main rotor to make the helicopter rise, then decrease it slightly to hover. Move the stick on the right side left or right to turn it left and right. If the helicopter is weighted forward, it will fly forward continuously. Use the right stick to turn it to avoid hitting walls.
