How to Make a Simple Car

Making a simple car is an interesting craft project you and your children can do on a rainy day or for a school project about recycling. Building a car demonstrates how to recycle different products to make something useful out of them. It also teaches the children about the basic parts of a car model. Creating this craft only takes a few basic supplies most people have around their homes.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap colored duct tape around the juice box or empty tea tin to form the car body. This will make it a solid color.

    • 2

Use the scissors to cut out small square pieces of aluminum foil. You will use these to form the headlights and tail lights on the car body. Glue them in place and allow them to dry.

    • 3

Cut a rectangle shape out of a clear plastic cup. This forms the windshield for the car. Tape or glue it into place on the top front of the car body.

    • 4

Tape a plastic straw underneath the front and back of the car body to form the wheel axles.

    • 5

Cut out eight egg cups from an empty egg carton. Trim them so that they are all 1/2 inch tall. Glue or tape the cut edges of the egg cups together. This forms four puffy wheels for the car.

    • 6

Poke a hole into the center of each wheel with a sharpened pencil and slide a straw axle into each one.

    • 7

Break the handles off two plastic spoons near the spoon section. Leave about a 1/2 inch to insert it into the car body. These will be the passengers in the car.

    • 8

Draw a face on the inside of each spoon with the markers. Cut a slit behind the windshield area for each short handle of the spoons. Insert the handles into the slits to form the passengers.
