How to Align Trex 450 Canopy Decals

The Trex 450 helicopter, a product of the Align corporation, gives you a personal experience because you have to assemble the helicopter before you can fly it. There are a few extra ways you can personalize the helicopter to make it feel uniquely yours. Many model helicopter pilots affix decals to the canopy to give it an edge, but aligning the decals properly around the cockpit can be difficult to do by sight only.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the rough shape of two corresponding decals out of the transfer sheet so that you can position the decals on the cockpit.

    • 2

Mark three or four matching points on the outside of each decal in pencil. These points will be used to align the decal correctly with one another.

    • 3

Place one of the decals on the outside of the canopy. Position the decal where you would like it to be, but without placing it over the seam between the canopy and removable cockpit. Lightly tape the decal down so that it won't shift.

    • 4

Extend the pencil marks onto the surface of the canopy. This not only makes them easier for measurements, but also allows you to align the decal later.

    • 5

Measure the distance from a fixed point on the helicopter to the marks on the decal. Fixed points are ones which you can find from both sides of the vehicle, such as the two screws that hold the canopy, or the hole where you attach the canopy to the body. Two or three measurements for each of the decal marks will ensure accuracy.

    • 6

Use the measurements to mark the canopy with a mirror image to that for the other decal. Measure roughly from the fixed point to where you think the mark should be, then measure from the next fixed point to that mark. Adjust if necessary. Repeat for the other marks.

    • 7

Tape the corresponding decal to the other side of the helicopter so that it aligns with the marks you have placed. Visually inspect the helicopter to see if the decals appear aligned. If not, adjust the decals until they look right. Look at the canopy from the top, front and even rear to see if they appear correctly.

    • 8

Affix both of the decals to the canopy. The particular decals you are using may be water transfer or use another method of transfer. Follow the directions for the decals you are using. Use the three lines on the canopy to position the decal properly. Leave the decals to dry for a few minutes.

    • 9

      Erase the pencil marks.
