Kits
Nitro starter model kits include common replacement parts that get worn out or are easily broken during normal use. When you first start using RC models, it is wise to consider a pre-made kit. You can get a nitro starter kit with the vehicle completely assembled and ready to run.
Performance
Increase your performance by keeping engine vibrations to a minimum. Vibrations create bubbles in the fuel and fuel lines that will stall the engine while running. Use a screwdriver to loosen the fuel tank, or place o-rings between the tank and the screws to form a cushion and decrease vibrations.
Maintenance
RC car maintenance mirrors full-size automobile maintenance to a large degree. Rotate tires to keep them in good condition, grease bearings and gears, and clean the differential with a pipe cleaner. Pipe cleaners come in handy to clean the engine heat sink and get rid of fuel adhering to the fins.
Break-In Period
After you get your new car out of the box, you need to adjust the fuel intake by setting the mixture needles. Start at one turn counterclockwise on the low-speed setting, and two to three turns on the high-speed needle. That will help you get the engine started for the first time. Then, when you first run your nitro engine, or start up after a long layoff, let it idle for several minutes. To ensure that fuel flows evenly, give the low-speed needle an extra turn. Give it extra gas every half-minute to clear out the engine build-up. Once the engine is running smoothly, set the mixture by running the car until the engine is warm and adjusting the fuel mix as needed to get the best speed and acceleration from the model.
Storage
Just like a full-size car, if you leave your nitro RC model sit for a period of time, remove the tires, or set the car on a stand to take the weight off of them.
