How to Repair a Trex 450

One of the benefits of owning an Align brand model helicopter, like the Trex 450, is that it is simple to use and to repair. Because the helicopter comes with a manual and a full description of parts included in the set, you could conceivably take the helicopter completely apart and rebuilt it from scratch if the part required it. However, most repairs are easily accessible with minimal deconstruction of the model aircraft.

Things You'll Need

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement part(s)

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the helicopter and controller. Disconnect the battery in both.

    • 2

Unscrew the canopy from the mounting brackets on both sides. The screws are located on the tips of the canopy, near the helicopter's rotor.

    • 3

Disconnect the belt on the tail rotor from the gear box in the back of the helicopter.

    • 4

Unscrew the tail section and the two tail booms from the back of the helicopter. Inspect the tail for any damaged parts and inspect the tail belt for any cracking or wearing. Replace any parts or belts that are damaged. Set the tail rotor aside for now. If your repairs are complete now, rebuild the helicopter and you are finished.

    • 5

Unscrew the top half of the helicopter base from the bottom half. Disengage the main gear from the motor gear and lift the top of the helicopter off of the rest of the section. Depending on how you have wired the receiver and battery, you may still have the two connected. You can disconnect the wires if you would prefer to.

    • 6

Inspect the helicopter's inner workings for any damaged or at-risk parts. Unscrew, remove and replace those parts with your replacement part.

    • 7

Rebuild the helicopter by re-attaching the parts in the order you removed them. If you get confused, consult the manual. You can find a PDF copy of the manual listed under References.
