Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find the type of oil-powered toy car you would like to build. Look for one that best fits your needs and skill level.
Read though the directions and manuals that came with your oil-powered car. This will help with letting you know what tools you will need to build and complete the project. You will also get a good idea on what to expect in terms of budgeting your time.
Find your workspace. When building your oil-powered car you will need a clean, open work space where you can keep your parts and tools safe from damage. Keeping a clean workspace will also give the added benefit of having everything you need on hand.
Unpack and organize the parts of your oil-powered toy car kit. Keep all similar parts together to help speed up the building process. At this time, it would be a good idea to sand down and use your craft knife to trim abnormal edges. Make sure where parts will meet are smooth and free of obstructions.
Assemble your oil-powered toy car, making sure all parts fit tight and secure as per the directions. Test your wiring and make sure everything functions as it should.
Decide on the paint job and style you would like for your oil-powered toy car. This is up to your creativity and skill level; just make sure you have all parts painted and completely dry before completing the build as it's harder to cleanly paint after the fact.
Attach all the internal parts to the upper and lower chassis. Once again, test all wiring and moving parts. Attach the upper and lower chassis. Confirm that the axles are secure and attach the wheels and tires.
Take your oil-powered toy car outside to a flat, smooth surface where you can safely test drive. Finish the project by adding finishing touches.
